PETROL bombs were thrown at a house in Golborne leaving its two elderly residents very shaken.

Two flaming bottles were launched at the downstairs window of the Kings Road house by a man between 7.15pm and 7.30pm on Sunday.

A crew from Leigh Fire Station were called to the blaze and used a hose reel to extinguish it.

The window and the window frame of the semi-detached house were damaged.

The two occupants of the house, aged in their 70s, were treated by paramedics at the scene.

Police are investigating the fire and appealing for information and witnesses.

The offender is described as a white man, around 6ft tall and of medium build. He was wearing dark coloured clothing.

Det Con Lynsey Watson said: "This as a malicious act that has left the occupants of the house very shaken by what has happened. We would ask that anyone with information call police urgently."
