VITAL funds have been awarded to Wigan and Leigh Hospice thanks to votes from the public.

The Hindley hospice has been given £3,000 from the Lloyds Bank Community Fund that will help it continue to support more than 1,000 patients across the borough.

Community groups from across the UK benefited from the fund and the hospice has become one of them thanks to the public who voted it one of the most deserving causes.

Irene Cieplak, volunteer services manager at the hospice said: “We care for people who are coming towards the end of their life as well as providing skilled care, help and support for longer periods of time to people living with life-limiting illnesses.

“We are so grateful to everyone who voted for us to receive a grant from the community fund. It will enable us to continue to help families who desperately need our expert care and support.”
