‘AN amazing and kind-hearted grandson who would always give his time to help others’.

Grieving grandfather Brian Bennett has paid tribute to Nicholas Bennett, from Leigh, who was killed in a motorbike crash.

Nick’s funeral took place today, Wednesday, at Leigh Parish Church, with motoryclist clubs paying their own tribute to the 23-year-old.

Leigh Journal:

Brian, who lives in Leigh, raised Nick after becoming his guardian when he was two years old and saw him as his own son, but his world came crashing down when Nick lost control of his motorbike while out for a ride on the A6 in Chorley.

“Nick was amazing. He loved his bikes and was always willing to give his time to help others; he used to volunteer helping disabled children,” said Brian.

“But he especially loved his animals. He used to have all manner of spiders, snakes and lizards in the house.

“He was getting on really well working at Asda in Leigh and he loved going out on his bike. She was called Stella but I have no idea why.

“Everyone has written such lovely things about him on Facebook. One of his friends is going to name his new shop in Warrington Nick’s Pet Shop in honour of him.”

Leigh Journal:

Nick and his friend had gone for a ride on their 125cc motorbikes on January 29.

While both riders were overtaking a learner driver, Nick lost control of his bike and caught the wing mirror of an oncoming car at around 4pm.

He was thrown from his bike and despite the best efforts of the hospital staff at Royal Preston Hospital he died a short time later.

“I want to thank the people who tried to save him. They did all they could. There was nothing he wouldn’t try or do.

“He just lost control, he wasn’t speeding or messing about, it was just a terrible tragedy. I know he wasn’t mine but he was like a son to me,” Brian added.

Lancashire Police are investigating the incident and appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A inquest will be held at Chorley Coroners’ Court.
