PUPILS got their aprons on and whisks at the ready for an inter-school baking competition.

Lowton CE High School has invested £5,000 in its state-of-the-art food technology room and have entered the Great Wigan Schools Bake Off to celebrate.

Year nine and ten pupils battled it out to make the best vegetable cupcake on February 11 for a chance to represent their school at the Grand Final of Wigan Council's Metrofresh competition at Haigh Hall on February 27.

Teacher Steph Miller who entered the school in the competition said: “This competition was the perfect opportunity for our pupils to show just how talented they really are.

“They embraced the brief and produced a wide range of fantastic cupcakes, from raspberry and courgette to sweet potato and orange.

“After a hectic day of baking I am pleased to announce that 12 of our pupils have been selected to compete in the final of the Great Wigan Bake Off. We wish them well.”
