Youngsters document history of children in care
4:20pm Sunday 23rd February 2014 in News
TIME-travelling young people have taken a look at how people used to live.
From the workhouses of a hundred years ago to children in care today, children from Wigan and Leigh have documented the changes through the ages through an interactive exhibition.
The 10-strong junior Voices For Choices group, run by Wigan Council's Voice and Engagement Service, began its historical exploration in September.
The group, aged between eight and 13, investigated the lives of children in care in the borough over the past century and created a mural that shows how they used to live.
Karen Freeman from the Voice and Engagement team, said: “The children completed their own research by visiting libraries and have documented everything they found out.
“I think the journey into what life used to be like was quite an eye-opener for the young people.”
The exhibition is on display at The Meadows Youth Centre in Worsley Hall.
