THE determined daughter of a cancer patient is holding a charity night as a thank you for her dad’s treatment.

Karen Trenbath’s dad Alan Davies, aged 76, was diagnosed with prostate cancer three years ago but didn’t require treatment until he was found to have a rare form of stomach tumour in July last year and is currently visiting The Christie every evening for radiotherapy.

Karen is aiming to raise £4,000 before she runs the Manchester Marathon in May by holding an entertaining night at Astley Labour Club on February 28.

“This is a huge task for me as the furthest I have run in a charity event prior - to this is 5K and considering I am 40 in May I'm starting to think I may be a little crazy,” said Karen, of Cotton Close, Tyldesley.

“Following on from my charity ball in November, where £2860.36 was raised, I went on to raise a further £492.66 from raffles and a stall at a Christmas fair for the a New YOU appeal at The Christie. Hopefully with the follow up event I’ll reach £4,000.”

The night will include a DJ, 80's tribute vocalists Amy Lee and Mason James, raffles and prize bingo.

Karen said: “Dad is currently undergoing his final stages of radiotherapy. He's been feeling a little poorly due to the hormone injections given prior to the treatment but is still in good spirits.”

Stefanie Underhill, community fundraising officer at The Christie, said: “We’re so grateful to Karen who is holding this event to raise money for our new teenage cancer unit. This new unit will improve treatment, care and facilities for all our young cancer patients.”

Tickets are £5, including a pasty and pea supper, and can be purchased from Astley Labour Club or Betty Blu in Tyldesley. Karen can be contacted for ticket sales on 07740 950987 or on email Karen.trenbath@gmail.com.
