WITCHES, Munchkins and flying monkeys took over a school hall as it was transformed into the magical Land of Oz.

Pupils at St Peter’s Primary School in Hindley were blown away by a performance of the Wizard of Oz by touring theatre company, M&M Theatre Productions.

The performance was held as part of the school’s World Book Day programme and was intended to enrich the curriculum for the whole school.

Assistant head teacher Leanne Crompton said: “Year six have been studying the story of the Wizard of Oz so it was great for them to see it adapted for the stage.

“It was extremely successful and both staff and pupils enjoyed the performance. Everyone joined in with the singing and clapping throughout. All in all, it was a great way to start our World Book Day theme.”
