BIG ideas could be awarded funding from a £2 million Community Investment Fund.

Charities, groups, individuals and social enterprises with ideas on how to improve an area are being given a second chance to bid for a slice of the Wigan Council fund.

The second round of the scheme - which gave £2m to 12 different groups last year - is part of the council’s Wigan Deal.

Leader of Wigan Council, Lord Peter Smith, said: “Last year, we were able to fund 12 wonderful projects that are already making a big difference by addressing some of the most serious social issues we face.

“These groups are better placed than the council to tackle such issues so it makes sense for us to seek community-based solutions. Supporting our communities to help themselves is an important part of the deal.”

Applications for the fund will open later this year. More information about the fund and the deal is available at: wigan.gov.uk.
