PREPARATORY work for town centre improvements in Tyldesley will get under way next week as part of Transport for Greater Manchester’s bus priority scheme.

The town centre improvements include a new bus only section of road on Stanley Street and changes to bus stops and junctions.

The first stage of the work – involving preparatory utility diversion works – is due to start on Monday.

A TfGM spokesman said: “These changes will help traffic flow, provide better pedestrian crossings and enhanced provision for cyclists.

“There will be no road closures during the work, which will take place on footways and is expected to be complete around the end of July 2014.

“Pedestrians will be able to use safe walking routes at all times and access to businesses and properties will be maintained throughout the work.”

Information on the works is being sent to local residents and businesses and is also available at: wigan.gov.uk/Resident/Parking-Roads-Travel/Roads/Roadworks-bulletin.aspx.
