Leigh nightclub's licence under investigation by council

Leigh Journal: Vogue's licence is being investigated Vogue's licence is being investigated

A NIGHTCLUB'S alcohol licence is being investigated by Wigan Council.

Greater Manchester Police has asked Wigan Council's licensing department to review the premise licence for Vogue night club on King Street, Leigh.

GMP referred the club as it feels none of the four licensing objectives - prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, prevention of public nuisance and protection of children from harm - are being met.

A notice posted by the force read: "GMP is asking for the revocation of the premises licence, as they feel this is the only option open to them."

But Jason McQuoid and Martin Chapman, owners of Vogue Nightclub, said they will 'fight this every step of the way'.

They told the Journal: "Our solicitor is currently gathering our evidence to show that we do meet our licensing objectives and we are confident the matter will be resolved, and I'm sure we can work with the police in the future in resolving issues."

Alan Blundell, assistant director for regulation at Wigan Council, said: "We have received an application from GMP to review the premises licence for Vogue Nightclub. We are required to advertise the application for 28 days, on or near the premises, during which time, other agencies, for example environmental health, trading standards, fire and rescue service or any other person affected by the premises, may make representations.

"At the end of the 28-day period the application will be considered by the council's licensing sub-committee.

"There are a range of options available to the committee, including taking no action, issuing a warning, or suspending or revoking the licence."

Been to this club (once) and my god it was rough and full of what looked like under age teenagers, and certainly employing inexperienced rude and nosy male/female bouncers that should do better than insult friendly, non-violent visitors...
