Leigh Journal: Family threatened with baseball bats in own home Family threatened with baseball bats in own home

A FAMILY are recovering after being threatened by men with baseball bats during a robbery in their own home.

Three men wearing ski masks and armed with bats and a knife targeted the house in Oak Avenue, Golborne, at 9.35pm yesterday, Thursday.

A 47-year-old man answered a knock at the door and was confronted by the attackers, who barged into the house and demanded money.

The 47-year-old and a 44-year-old man were attacked and both suffered cuts to their faces and heads which required hospital treatment.

One of the offenders went upstairs where he confronted a 69 year-old man who told them to leave and they walked out empty handed.

Det Ch Insp Howard Millington said: “The family do not know why they have been targeted and we do not know whether this has been a case of mistaken identity or not. “Understandably, they have been left traumatised by their experience and feel unsafe in their own home, a place where everyone should feel the safest of all."

The offender who went upstairs is described possibly white, slim to skinny build, aged 16 to 18 years old with a local accent. He was wearing a greyish blue coloured jacket.

One of the other offenders is described as possibly white, of slim build, about 5ft 8in and spoke with a Liverpool accent.

Anyone with information that could help police should call 0161 8567103 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
