THOUSANDS of children will tuck into Easter eggs today, Sunday, thanks to the spectacular generosity of the people of Leigh.

More than 1,000 Easter egg have been collected by Johnny Simpkin and Christine Brown of Superleigh Lottery - with a helping hand from Leigh Centurions’ mascot Parky Pig.

The eggs along with colouring books will have been distributed across hospitals and charities including Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, The Royal Bolton Hospital, The Christie Hospital, Wigan and Leigh Hospice, Compassion in Action, Future Steps and Atherton Foodbank.

With contributions coming from The Shield Group, Leigh Sports Village, McDonalds, The Tanning Studio By Dave Brown, Morrisons, Astley Labour Club, Astley Rotary Club and the Leigh Centurions fans, it’s the largest haul of eggs in the three year history of the initiative.

Christine said: "I'd like to say a big thank you to everybody who has donated Easter eggs and books to our collection this year.

"We have had well over 1000 items donated, which is a great increase on last year, and will really help brighten up the Easter weekend of people who are going through a bad time."
