A MAN was repeatedly punched in the head while babysitting for his granddaughter at a house in Atherton.

The 44-year-old victim was assaulted after three men knocked on the door of a house on Warwick Road at around 10.40pm yesterday, Wednesday.

He opened the door and one of the men asked who he was. He explained he was babysitting his granddaughter and asked who they were.

One of the men then hit him on the head with an unknown object.

The victim staggered into the living room and fell onto the sofa, before the offenders punched him seven times in the head and left.

One man is described as white, 5ft 10in to 6ft tall, of medium build and wearing a black hooded top.

The second man was white, 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, of medium build, with short brown or ginger hair and he was wearing a blue and white patterned top.

The third man has been described as white, 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, of medium build and wearing a cream coloured checked top.

Det Sgt Neil Lawless of Wigan Division said: “A man opened his front door and was confronted by three men, who then forced their way into the house and viciously attacked him.

“The victim suffered cuts to the head and is understandably very shaken by what happened, especially since his five-year-old granddaughter was in the house.

“We’re urging anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area to contact police immediately.”
