BRAVE pupils from Penkford School in Newton-le-Willows showed a willingness to help others, when they abseiled down the Warrington Collegiate building to raise money for the Walton Lea Project, which helps those with learning difficulties.

Penkford head teacher Julie Johnson said: “I am very proud of them. They were really keen to take part in this charity event.

“Our pupils are very community minded and they have a spirit for adventure. Developing the emotional and physical health and wellbeing of our pupils is one of our priorities.

“We are already planning next year’s abseiling challenge.”

September will mark the beginning of a Sporting Futures project at Penkford, when pupils will gain sports qualifications and deliver sessions in the community.

A recent Ofsted inspection recognised Penkford’s progress and praised the leadership team and school governors.
