A GROUP of primary school children have trained as librarians.

The pupils at Golborne Community Primary School took part in training sessions at Golborne Library with the Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust Library Team in order to help run the school’s new library.

The children were taught how to run a successful library and back at school took part in a session to sort the fiction books in alphabetical order by authors’ surnames and non-fiction books into the Dewey decimal system.

The training is provided by the Schools Cultural Service to enable schools to improve its own library, encourage reading for pleasure and develop the children’s self confidence.

Andrew Pickup from the service said: “The pupils find out from a librarian what is involved in the role and how they can apply this learning to improve the service in their library, promote books and be reading champions in the school.”

They received certificates and badges to mark the successful completion of their training.
