A LEIGH nightclub has had its licence revoked following ‘a catalogue of incidents’.

But the owners of Vogue, in King Street, say they are seeking legal advice in order to appeal the decision, made by Wigan Council’s licensing sub committee at a hearing at Leigh Town Hall on June 10.

Greater Manchester Police asked the council to review the Leigh club’s licence as it feared the management was not meeting any of its four licensing objectives.

Owners Jason McQuoid and Martin Chapman issued a joint statement to the Journal following the decision.

They said: “We are obviously unhappy with the decision that has been reached.

“We are seeking legal advice in order to appeal the decision and the premises will remain trading as normal until a decision regarding an appeal has been made.

“If an appeal is made we will remain open until a decision is reached.

“We will continue to work alongside the police and local authorities to provide customers with a safe and enjoyable nightlife.”

The club can remain open for 21 days after the decision if an appeal is lodged, until it has been heard in court.

GMP referred the case to the council for review, citing that the owners were not meeting their obligations to prevent crime and disorder, ensure public safety, prevent public nuisance and protect children from harm.

A council spokesman said: “A catalogue of incidents were referred to in the police documentation and oral evidence.

“The sub committee was advised that following a meeting in July 2013 between the police, the licence holders and licensing officers, a minor variation application was submitted and additional conditions were imposed on the licence, however, it was the view of the police that this had not resulted in the necessary improvements.

“The committee found that there had been some inaccuracies in the evidence submitted by the police but were concerned that there were still a large number of incidents that had occurred, which raised concerns about the promotion of the licensing objectives by the management of the venue.”
