A COMBINED effort saw the men of Leigh cycle the distance from Leeds to Lille in France without leaving Spinning Gate Shopping Centre.
As part of men’s health week, Trim Down Shape Up, a weight loss programme for men, set up shop in the centre with the aim of cycling the first leg of the Tour de France in just five days.
Even Leigh MP Andy Burnham contributed, cycling a mile in one minute and 16 seconds.
Overall, 710km were cycled on the bike by men who are already on the Trim Down Shape Up programme, staff from the shopping centre and passers-by who were encouraged to join in.
Nearly 40 men also signed up to Trim Down Shape Up programme, which is run by Wigan Council just for men.
