THE search is on to find Leigh’s best young writer.

The Journal has teamed up with Leigh opticians Future Vision to launch a competition for all budding writers aged 14 and under.

Future Visions manager Dawn Doran said: “We want to give budding young writers the opportunity to showcase their talent to the rest of the town and tell us, through their own eyes, why they love Leigh so much.

“Maybe you have a treasured place in Leigh you want to bring to life, a poem you want to pen about your favourite locals or even have a fantastical fiction idea based on our little town.

“The entry that impresses us most with its creativity, imagination and originality will be crowned Leigh’s Best Young Writer 2014 and get their worked published in the paper.”

Future Vision, based at Tesco Extra on Derby Street, has been open for two years and as part of its birthday celebrations, together with the Journal, is also offering the winner a Kindle along with free eye tests and prescription glasses for the winner and one member of their family.

  • To enter, you must be 14 or under and will need to write a short story on Leigh, no longer than one page, along with your age, name and contact details and either e-mail to newsdesk@leighjournal.co.uk or post to Future Vision competition, Leigh Journal, 44-46 Railway Road, Leigh, WN7 4AT. The closing date for entries is July 18.
