A LECTURER is celebrating after being named Make-up Artist of the Year by the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC).

Melanie Doyle, from Glazebury, beat off fierce competition from more than a hundred make-up artists across the UK to clinch the title at the awards.

The Make-up and Beauty Therapy tutor at Wigan & Leigh College had an hour to impress renowned make-up artist Mai Lee with a 1920s style look.

Mai Lee, whose clients include the likes of Cheryl Cole and Paris Fashion Week, chose Melanie as the overall winner and said her knowledge and skill had stood out from the start.

Melanie said: “The competition was tough so it felt fantastic just to make the final five, let alone go on to win Make-Up Artist of the Year.”

Melanie, who has been teaching for the past 13 years, was part of the team that set up Wigan & Leigh College’s successful hair and make-up course.
