A DAD was subjected to a 'horrific and violent attack' in his own home in Leigh.

The man, his partner and three children, aged 12, 15 and 18 were woken by a loud bang downstairs at around 11.40pm on Wednesday.

Four masked men burst into the victim’s bedroom and punched, kicked and smashed a vase over the head of the man.

The intruders then went into another bedroom and attacked the victim's family before stealing property - cash, a mobile phone and an MP3 player - and escaping from the house on Coronation Drive, Higher Folds.

No one else was hurt but the man suffered a cut to his head and bruising to his face and body.

The men are described as being between 5ft 7in and 5ft 10in tall, having local accents and all were wearing dark clothing and balaclavas.

Det Con David Fairhurst, of Wigan division, said: "A group of four masked men forced their way into a family home and attacked a family, before stealing from them.

"This was a horrific and violent attack and a terrifying experience for the victims, who are understandably distraught by this event.

"We're urging anyone who may have seen a group of men acting suspiciously in the area to contact police immediately, as we want to find the offenders as soon as possible."

Anyone with information should call 0161 856 7225 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Ex Leyther says...

Not read the Leigh news for a while but it doesn't seem to matter as whenever you do read it, it's pretty much the same with stuff like this happening. Violence, murder, civil unrest, you name it and if it's bad it's happening in Leigh. I've seen it spiral downhill over the years to reach the place it's at now, and doubtless it will continue to sink even lower.
It's something of a unique place where people's moral values are so low and out of touch with reality and the outside world that it has become an annex of hell. People are so disillusioned that they actually believe having been in prison or a violent criminal is a status symbol and to the droves of black sheep who exist on the many council estates it is. "Do you know who I am!!", "I know someone who knows someone who will shoot you" "I'll slice you up!" There is no value for human life, none whatsoever and in Leigh there is a "law" unto itself, one that rules with fear and intimidation, name dropping and wannabee "gangsters" desperately trying to outdo each other in the hope that they too can become "infamous". But really, how "hard" or how much guts does it take to be 4 vs 1 or to pull a weapon out on somebody - I can tell you right now "zero" but what it does take is a low life scum mentality with zero respect for people's well being or lives. At one time you could also have said no respect for their family either, but now we have reached a time where even the father and / or mother have been doing the same thing in many cases. I used to love Leigh, and I guess it still has a place in me, but it has become a real cess pit of filth and degradation, the only moral at work in Leigh is depravity and I'd advise anyone who can be honest with themselves enough to stand back and take a look at what I'm saying is true to get out and as far away from that horrible place as possible. Believe me, there are MUCH better places you can be, leave the wannabee gangsters, and not forgetting the gangstets (that's the silly little girl who also likes to name drop and thrives on her friends infamy) all behind, because unless the law gets some backbone and clears up this filthy display of walking human trash it will never be any different, only worse.
