GREEN-FINGERED volunteers turned out in force to bed plants and paint benches in Lilford Park.

More than 20 volunteers helped the Friends of Lilford Park (FoLP) double the number of bedding plants in the main flower beds provided by WLCT and painted nine park benches.

Moss Bank Nurseries of Leigh donated more than 1,000 plants consisting of scarlet red, white and purple Petunias, red Salvias, blue Lobelia, white Alyssum and Cineraria free of charge.

They were collected by another band of ten volunteers with Browns of Leigh and four willing staff members, Dave Concannon and FoLP chairman Dave Sykes supplying the transport.

David said: "This was a big boost to the park and the warm weather couldn't have been better.

“More than 750 primulas which were removed to make way for the summer bedding were saved for us by the WLCT and together with some surplus summer bedding plants from Moss Bank have been delivered to Wigan and Leigh Hospice for their garden projects.”
