PUPILS at Westleigh High School have been making a right song and dance.

Students showed off their vocal skills at the annual school’s ‘Oscar’ evening and performed to an audience of 1,000 parents at the Let’s Sing festival.

GCSE drama students were invited to perform a sensitive piece of drama based on domestic abuse and sexual exploitation at Wigan’s Youth Zone while the school’s soul band took to the stage at Wigan Rock and Pop festival and won Best Ensemble Performance.

Head teacher John Banks said: “I am very proud of the achievements of all students at Westleigh High School, but especially pleased to see that our performing arts students have reaped the benefits of all their hard work.

“When they win awards and accolades they are a credit to their families and the school, which fills me with pride - well done”.

The school was also named the Secondary School of the Year at the Education Awards Ceremony ahead of other schools in the borough.
