RETAILERS are being urged not to sell e-cigarettes to under-18s by Trading Standards.

A scheme has been launched after a recent survey revealed 30 per cent of 14 to 17 year olds in the borough claimed to have tried or bought an electronic cigarette.

As part of the voluntary initiative a specially designed guidance leaflet which includes details about the potential implications of using e-cigarettes has been sent out to more than 1500 retailers throughout the borough.

It encourages shops to only sell e-cigarettes to customers who can prove they’re over 18.

Retailers have also been supplied with ‘Responsible Retailer’ notices so they can let customers know they are backing the scheme.
