A FUNERAL director has donated a piece of silver to Leigh in memory of his daughter.

Paul Dainton presented a 1920s silver bowl complete with ladle and goblets to the town which he dedicated to his daughter Lynne Morland, who died in 2005.

Lynne suffered a brain haemorrhage, aged 28, and her only daughter Niamh joined Paul to present the silverware at an event last week.

Paul, company director at Paul Dainton Funeral Directors, in St Helens Road, Leigh, said: “When you lose a child, you don’t expect that to happen, you should go first.

“Lynne’s death devastated all the family with it being so sudden. We are still devastated.

“She is always in our thoughts and minds and that’s why we decided to do this as a nice tribute to her memory.”

Lynne was born in Leigh, attending St Peter’s Primary School and later working at Pennington Primary School and Leigh Parish School as a support teacher.

The event was attended by Paul and 11-year-old Niamh but Lynne’s widower Lee Morland was unable to attend due to work commitments.

“It is coming up to the 10th anniversary so we wanted to do something to mark the occasion and give something back to the town,” said Paul, aged 63.

The silver bowl was presented to Clr Myra Whiteside, chair of Leigh Town Management Group, and Mayor of Wigan Phyllis Cullen at Leigh Town Hall where it will be put on display.
