A STUDENT from Leigh is amongst a group studying at Winstanley College who have been awarded for engineering problem solving.
Jacob Kay, aged 16, and fellow students Kathryn McGregor, Ethan Spall and Nic Gaskell, all aged 17 have received a CREST (Creativity in Science and Technology) Award.
The award is part of the Engineering Education Scheme (EES), for the team’s outstanding engineering problem solving.
The students had to find an engineering solution to a problem they were set whilst working with professional engineers from Sellafield and Nuclear Engineering Science (NES).
The team designed a remote rope deployment system that could be used to help in the nuclear decommissioning process.
The judges said: “The students developed well executed projects that have shown innovative solutions to the original brief.”
