ARTWORK by groups from across the borough is to go on display to commemorate the start of the First World War.

Wigan and Leigh Housing (WALH) have commissioned independent artist Peter Butterworth to work with groups including Golborne and Lowton Art Group, Leigh Community Art Group and Studio 77 of Leigh and Gilded Hollins Primary School in Leigh to produce more than 100 paintings which will go on display from Friday, September 5 until September 18.

Artwork will be available to buy and the proceeds will be split between Veterans Council and Help for Heroes while proceeds from the children’s paintings from Gilded Hollins will be donated to the school.

The Deputy Mayor of Wigan, Clr Susan Loudon will open the exhibition at a special ticket only preview on September 4 at Turnpike Gallery, Leigh Library from 6.30pm.
