A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a 62-year-old.

Police were called to a house on Moresby Close in Leigh, following reports of an assault at about 1.50am on August 26.

Officers attended and established that during the disturbance, a 62-year-old man from a neighbouring property on Moresby Close had been injured.

The man was taken to Salford Royal Hospital for treatment to his injuries but died on Saturday, August 30. He has now been formally identified as Derek Alexander Szostok.

A Home Office post-mortem examination established Derek died as a result of fatal neck injuries.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested today, Wednesday, on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning.

In a statement, Derek's family have provided the following tribute: "God bless you brother, you will be sadly missed by all the family.

"Derek lost his fight for life at 4.15pm on August 30. God Bless you, say hello to mum for us."

Police are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have information to come forward.
