STAFF at Phones 4u’s Leigh shop are still waiting to hear their fate after the company announced it had gone into administration.
More than 5,500 jobs are at risk after network operator EE joined Vodafone in choosing to not renew its contract with the retailer, leaving the company without a network partner.
The Bradshawgate store is one of the company’s 550 stores which employ 5,596 people.
All of the stores are closed today, Monday, but staff were told to turn up for work in order to briefed by management as they await a decision by the administrators on whether the business can be reopened for trading.
A staff member at the Leigh store, who wished not to be named, said: “We don’t know ourselves what will happen. All we know is that we are not trading today and we are waiting for the administrators to get in touch.”
