SPORTING excellence in the borough has been rewarded at the 14th annual Believe Sports Awards.
Hundreds attended the awards ceremony on Friday, for which more than 97 volunteers, coaches and players were nominated for nine categories.
Amongst the winners was Leigh St Mary's U18s Water Polo Team who was awarded Team of the Year after they won the English Schools U18s Girls Water Polo Championships for the third year running while Adrian Fleming from Leigh Amateur Boxing Club won Coach of the Year.
Andy Wiggans, chair of trustees at leisure and culture provider WLCT, which organised the event, said: “The awards recognise those outstanding individuals and teams who strive to be the best in their sport, as well as those volunteers who go the extra mile to support talent in the borough.
“Well done to everyone who was nominated this year and to all those who work hard to develop sport across Wigan and Leigh.”
