A MUM who beat cervical cancer has conquered her latest tough challenge.

When Laura Beaumont was given the all clear after undergoing a hysterectomy in November last year, she decided she wanted to raise money for the charity that helped her through.

The 32-year-old completed the 12-mile Tough Mudder obstacle course at Cholmondeley Castle joined by 14 friends, including best friends Keli Morris and Emma Broadbent, who have helped her raise £7,690 for Jo's Trust.

"I have recovered now but the day after was awful. It was really good though," said the mum to four-year-old Rocky.

"We all stuck together and helped each other out.

"I was aiming to raise about £1,000 and thought I might reach £1,500 but I never thought I'd raise so much."

Laura, of Wintergreen Close, Leigh, was diagnosed last October after a routine cervical screening and is eager to share her experience in the hope that others will realise how important they are.

She has been given the all clear but must attend six-monthly check ups to keep an eye on things in case the cancer returns.

"Everything is fine at the moment. I am really chuffed because you don't know what's going to happen. People all around us seem to be getting ill and it just makes you want to help whenever you can.

"I'm definitely going to do more fundraising in the future. We are planning to do one big thing a year and will probably do the Tough Mudder again next year.

"Keli and I really want to do Machu Picchu but it costs a bit so we may have to wait a couple of years."

Jo's Trust offers support to women and their families affected by cervical cancer and abnormalities.

Laura added: “The charity was a major part of it for me. I used to go on the website every night to read other people’s stories. It let me know that I wasn’t alone.”
