A LUCKY grandmother will be swapping Hindley Green for the Dominican Republic after making the winning bid for the holiday of a lifetime in a charity auction.

Jean Hilton scooped the all-inclusive five-star trip when she offered £1,000 earlier this month in an auction event for Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

The 64-year-old will be taking her brother Bob Rothwell from Leigh on holiday with her.

Jean said: “I got a phone call from the hospice and I was screaming and running around the kitchen and I couldn’t talk for laughing.

“It’s somewhere we’ve never considered going because it’s so expensive – winning is like something out of a dream.”

Her bid will boost the hospice’s Counting on Care appeal, which hopes to raise £60,000 towards the cost of modernising the inpatient unit.

During their two-week trip, Jean and Bob will stay at the Luxury Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado Don Pablo in the resort of Cayo Levantado.
