CHANGES to bin collections over the festive period have been announced.

Wigan Council is urging residents to be aware of that they have had to change bin collection days due to Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day all falling on a weekdays, when there will be no bin collections.

This means that all bin collections are affected in the week beginning December 22 and Thursday and Friday collections are affected in the week beginning December 29.

Terry Dunn, director for environment for Wigan Council, said: “Due the bin collection service being closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day we have had to adapt the service to make sure all bins will be collected.

“We will collect on Saturdays to make up for the three bank holidays.

“We advise residents to check when their bin will be collected – some will be collected before their normal due day so it is important for people to check.”

Collection Days:

  • Bins due for collection on Monday December 22 will be collected on Saturday December 20
  • Bins due for collection on Tuesday December 23 will be collected on Monday December 22
  • Bins due for collection on Wednesday December 24 will be collected on Tuesday December 23
  • Bins due for collection on Thursday December 25 will be collected on Wednesday December 24
