A FENCE is due to be replaced at Hindley train station after a friends group secured funding.

The Friends of Hindley Station (FOHS) have received a grant from Leigh-based Adactus Housing Association’s Neighbourhood Fund.

The money is to be used to pay towards a larger project to replace an existing fence at the station.

Sheila Davidson, secretary of FOHS said: “The fencing has served the station well over the years but after numerous repairs it desperately needs replacing.

“We would like to thank Adactus for their contribution as it now means that we have enough money to install the new fencing.”

The FOHS has completely transformed the station’s gardens since it was founded in 2006.

The award winning station has recently been crowned as Best Railway Station at the Northwest in Bloom awards and Best Station Garden by the Association of Community Rail Partnerships.

Lindsay Ogden, neighbourhood development officer from Adactus, said: “The railway station is a credit to the community. The volunteers work tirelessly to maintain the gardens.”
