A FESTIVE-themed lunch has been held for homeless people at Leigh Library.
The Winter Big Lunch, held at Leigh Turnpike Centre, provided attendees with a free hot meal and an afternoon of interactive activities.
The event, arranged by the Library and local homeless charity, The Brickk, was tailored to promote nearby services and encourage homeless people to utilise public buildings.
Activities on the day included a music and art zone, arcade games and a free prize draw. Staff and volunteers worked hard throughout the day arranging quizzes, competitions and raffles as well as spending time chatting to everyone.
Tracey Pickup, the library’s manager, said: “The event has been a huge success. We have engaged with a number of people with many of them signing up to free computer skills courses.”
Adactus Housing Association gave the library £500 from their Neighbourhood Fund towards the cost of the Big Lunch event.
Lindsay Ogden, Adactus’ neighbourhood development officer said: “It is fantastic that we have been able to contribute towards the event.
“People who find themselves in hardship may feel isolated so it is really important we promote support services that are available.”
