PENSIONERS were treated to an impromptu carol service during their Christmas dinner.
Pupils from St Ambrose Barlow Catholic Primary, accompanied by head teacher Darren McCann and year five teacher Richard Kerrigan visited Astley Pensioners Luncheon Club to sing carols whilst Christmas lunch was served.
Mr McCann said: “We have a long standing relationship with our community. The children get a lot out of visiting the different groups and organisations which gives them a greater sense of belonging within their surroundings."
The weekly luncheon club is open to everyone over 60 years old and is organised by Marian Latchford.
She said: “It was a lovely surprise to see the children, one of the carols was in Spanish, which was sung beautifully by the children. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.”
For £3, pensioners in need of companionship can enjoy a two course meal and a hot drink provided by Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust every Wednesday between 11am and 1.15pm.
