A HAT-TRICK of awards has topped of the year for housing management company Wigan and Leigh Homes (WALH).

The company that manages Wigan Council’s housing stock has claimed three prizes in recognition of its environmental work, its work with young people and its support for the armed forces.

WALH won the housing prize at the Veteran’s Council Excellence Awards for its work prioritising ex-service men and women who are in housing need as part of the Armed Forces Covenant the council has committed to.

WALH also won a silver award at SHIFT benchmarking scheme, which is endorsed by the government and judges housing associations and providers on the environmental performance of their properties.

WALH also won an award from the Wigan Youth Zone for its work getting young people ready for the work place.

Janice Barton, chief executive of WALH, said: “Winning these awards has made this a great end to 2014. We’re starting the New Year with fresh momentum.

“We’ve got lots of exciting plans for 2015 to build new properties, attract new tenants and provide new services and support to our existing tenants.”
