A CHAMPIONSHIP footballer has stopped by to visit his former primary school.

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Jason Lowe returned to St Thomas C.E Primary School in Leigh on Tuesday as a Next 20 ambassador for Kick It Out.

Jason spoke to pupils about the importance of equality and inclusion within football and society in general.

He was joined by Paul Mortimer, Kick It Out’s professional players engagement manager, who delivered an anti-discrimination workshop to the students before leading a question and answer session with Jason.

Year four lower key stage quadrant leader Angela Barnes said: "Paul talked about different kinds of racism and bullying in school and in the community. He spoke about how pupils should report it if they are a victim, such as to a parent, teacher of Childline.

"The pupils were very excited about Jason coming. He not only used to go to the school but also has two cousins who go here.

"We are also linking it to a literacy project so the year four pupils researched him and are going to write a biography about him using that and his interview questions."
