RABBITS at a rescue were given a treat thanks to a local charity.

The Spirit of Trust Charity, run by Claire Simm and Anne Compton decided to help Bunnyhop Rescue – based in Over Hulton, Bolton – and their donated goods were much appreciated by Kay Waugh who runs the rescue.

The charity brought round bags of food, toys and hay for the rescue centre.

“I couldn’t believe it when they turned up with so many things for us. It is very much appreciated,” said Mrs Waugh.

Kay rescues all breeds of rabbits including giant ones such as Rupert who is pictured here.

She also looks after dogs, cats and guinea pigs.

“Many people get rabbits for their children but don’t realise how complex these creatures are and when they realise what hard work they are they end up with me.”

The Spirit of Trust is a Horwich and Leigh-based organisation set up by the two women to help anyone in need in the area.

They help the homeless, women and men suffering domestic abuse and local charities such as Fortalice and Paws for Kids.

Ms Simm said: "We try to help as many small local charities that we can, especially the small ones that need extra help. We chose Bunnyhop Rescue because animals are for life, not just for Christmas.

"There is a lot of awareness about cats and dogs being neglected, but there isn't much for rabbits. A lot of people get them for their children without realising just how big they could to grow.

"We started the charity in February last year after doing a lot of work feeding the homeless, which we still do twice a week in Leigh Pentecostal Church on a Monday and Friday, but as well as that we do everything we can to donate items of need to local organisations like Bunnyhop."
