FIREFIGHTERS were called to a home in Hindley Green after an elderly man left food under the grill unattended.
When firefighters arrived at the kitchen fire in a terraced house in Ashfield Avenue, at about 7.30pm this evening, the blaze was already out.
The 83-year-old man who lived there had put the pan in the sink and managed to get himself out of the property.
His neighbours called the fire brigade, who ventilated the house because it had become smoke-logged.
The elderly man was checked out by paramedics and was uninjured. He declined further hospital treatment.
A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We gave the man some home safety advice and spoke to his relatives. We will be calling back next week to give him some further advice.”
