A BEDROOM was destroyed in a blaze started by a candle.
Firefighters were called to Warrington Road, Leigh just before 4pm on Friday after the candle flame caught a pair of curtains.
A mother and daughter escaped the fire which gutted the bedroom and caused smoke damage to the house.
The daughter was treated for smoke inhalation by emergency services but did not go to hospital.
Crews said they brought the blaze under control relatively quickly but were on the scene for two hours dampening down and removing burnt furniture.
Crew Manager Tim Selby said: “The rear bedroom was destroyed in the blaze.
“Fortunately the smoke alarm alerted the two occupants to the blaze.”
