X Factor finalist Laura White will perform at the first Championship Rugby League game of the season.

Atherton-born singer songwriter Laura will sing two songs during half-time at Leigh Centurions opener against Bradford Bulls at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday.

Laura, who will also be a guest of the club for the day, rose to fame by reaching eighth place on The X Factor in 2008 and has since pursued a successful career.

Leigh Centurions head of rugby Derek Beaumont said: “It’s going to be a fantastic occasion with Fui in line to earn his Heritage Number by making his debut as a Leigh Centurions player.”

“But Laura’s appearance will raise the bar even higher and confirm that at Leigh Centurions we know how to put on a show.

“Laura has many fans throughout the country but she is especially popular in this area with her local links. It’s a great opportunity for her local fans to come to see her perform her fantastic songs.

“The Bradford game will be a terrific spectacle and to get an act like Laura White is huge and just shows how far the Club has come."

Laura’s partner is the Leigh Centurions star Matthew Sarsfield who sadly will miss out on the season opener through injury.

Mr Beaumont added: “Matthew had a great season last year and played a big part in our success. He’s gutted to miss out but at least it will enable him to accompany Laura throughout the afternoon though I won’t be asking him to sing.”
