A TENANT has been evicted from his Leigh home after complaints from neighbours.

The man was ordered to leave 193 Glebe Street after being served with a closure order for anti social behaviour.

Officers from Wigan Council and Leigh East police had visited the property on a number of occasions after reports of large groups of males and females visiting the address and causing disturbance to residents.

One couple, who did not want to be named, said the situation was so bad that they wanted to move house because of the bad behaviour.

The closure order, which is the first to be served in the Wigan Borough area, prohibits access to the property to anyone not on a list of approved names, which includes the tenants, two of their close friends, the landlord, emergency services and Wigan Council.

The tenant was also served with an eviction notice by his landlord and will be supported by officers to find alternative accommodation.

Inspector Liz Sanderson from the Leigh East INPT, said: "We believe this closure sends out a message that we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour in our communities. This closure would not have happened without the help from the local community and I would like to thank those people who gave the initial information which led to this closure. We will continue to work together to stop people who act in this way."

Alan Blundell, assistant director for regulation at Wigan Council, said neighbours had had enough.

He said: “This situation was causing a lot of distress for local residents so our officers pulled out all the stops to implement the closure as quickly as possible. We will work with the tenant to address these issues to prevent them from occurring again.”

The house has now been boarded up to prevent people from and causing further nuisance and will stay boarded until the expiry of the closure order on June 10.
