BEAUTY queen Carissa Grice has made it to the finals of the Miss Manchester competition.

The 19-year-old, from Astley, entered after being spotted at the Clothes Show TV programme.

Carissa, who successfully won through two rounds, will now compete against 40 others hopefuls in a bid to take the top title.

“I have no previous experience in beauty competitions, having entered and getting this far I feel very privileged and excited at the reality of a place in the finals, " said Carissa, who is an apprentice beautician at Tan & Tone in Tyldesley.

“I have always had a keen interest in modelling and fashion and I think if you have a dream and a passion you should follow it and enjoy the moment.”

Her father, Rob, who owns The Barber Shop next door to his wife's businesses, Iron Maiden Ironing in Chapel Street, Leigh said: "I'm very proud. It's something that you never think will ever happen to your own daughter, especially Miss Manchester. It's a really big thing.

"She is still having her uneasy moments but I've told her just go for it because just taking part is going to look great on her CV.

"She's in the beauty industry and wants to work on cruise ships so I would imagine that employers would look at this on her CV and see her potential."

After being spotted by chance at the NEC Birmingham Clothes Show, Carissa entered the competition and has been finding sponsors to help with her

Before competing in the final, Carissa will need to find a sponsor for her sash and dress to take part in the pageant which will be held at The Palace Theatre in Manchester on May 7.
