A CORDON was put in place after liquefied petroleum gas leaked from a vehicle in a supermarket car park.

Firefighters were called to Morrisons supermarket in Leigh Sports Village at 4.30pm after the fumes were spotted coming from a Ford Fusion.

Firefighters put a 100 metre cordon in place as they poured water over the affected area until the fumes dissipated in to the atmosphere.

Watch manager, Gary Mercer said: “LPG is flammable so we used jets to create a protective atmosphere and to dilute it.

“We were there for 40 minutes and drivers were unable to get to their cars until the cordon had been removed.

“The car was parked near to the main entrance of the Morrisons, so we closed that entrance, but another entrance into the store was opened so business could continue.”
