A FAMILY has celebrated their son being given the all-clear by holding a fundraiser to help other cancer sufferers.

Harvey Davies was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2009 when he was six years old.

Last month, after enduring months of cancer treatment, Harvey, now aged 13, was given his five-year all-clear.

As a thank you to the charities that helped their son, the family held a black tie event at Rendezvous 1 in Astley and raised £10,000 for Child Flight and Clic Sargent.

Mum, Clare Davies of Brookfield Street, Leigh, said: "It was an absolutely amazing night. It was always our plan to give back to the charities that helped us through Harvey's treatment.

"I think for the past five years I have just been at a bit of a standstill — like I was on auto pilot.

"It just feels like a massive weight off my shoulders.

"I feel like our journey has finally come to an end and now we can all exhale and look to the future.

"We are just absolutely elated — we are so happy.

"We have just had a week-long celebration as it has just been Harvey's birthday as well."

The family are planning another fundraiser next year and hope to bring their total to £12,000 in July after a raffle at Garret Hall Primary School on July 5.

Ms Davies said: "Child Flight and Clic Sargent are just such amazing charities. We wanted to give back to them because without donations they wouldn't be able to provide other children with the care that they gave Harvey.

"Child Flight gave us the most amazing opportunity to go to Florida on a 12 nights all-inclusive holiday after Harvey's treatment which was just amazing and Clic Sargent were always there with emotional and physical support — they just helped to take the pressure off.

"Now we just want to move forward to a happy and healthy future. We are just so thankful to everyone that has helped us and the fundraiser just created such a positive vibe in the community that we want to keep that going."
