PREPERATIONS for Atherton Carnival are well underway — and this year promises to be bigger than ever.

The streets of Atherton will be a mass of colour as the parade makes its rounds on June 21.

Taking a slightly different route this year the parade will start at 12pm on Gloucester Street exiting Meadowbank fields, along Gloucester street up to Greendale where it takes a left onto Devonshire Road.

It then travels along up to Dorset Road down to Carbank Street along to Formby Avenue and then back onto the Meadowbank playing fields.

After the parade, the fun continues back on Meadowbank playing fields in Gloucester street in Atherton with a fairground including carousel pony rides, zorb balls and face painter stalls.

The bulldog display team will also be performing their amazing acrobatic routine and there will be a display of musical performances.

The idea of the carnival is to bring all local partnerships together in helping to make an improvement in the community and bring positive attitudes Atherton

Disney Frozen fans will be excited with the announcement that Frozen's Anna and Elsa will be joining the parade and will also be around for meet and greets alongside friends from the Wacky Warehouse, Wendy and Wesley.

Event organiser Brian Seddon said: "We have more than 500 people in the parade now. It really is going to huge this year.

"We've got three walking bands, every primary school in Atherton is on board, there are three different dance groups, a vintage car show, football events, we have even got Elvis in his Cadillac.

"We are very grateful to Wigan and Leigh housing who have sponsored us again this year as have Bent and Bongs Beer festival.

"We held a carol concert at Christmas and we do various raffles to raise money too.

"The carnival shows that Atherton is a thriving town and it is absolutely brilliant for the community.

"We are just hoping and praying for good weather like last year!"
