FORMER pupils got to get their own back on their teachers in a basketball ‘grudge’ match.

The class of 2006 students went head to head with P.E staff at Westleigh High School in a match to settle a long running feud.

In 2006 a group of Year 11 students challenged the PE staff at Westleigh to a basketball game and they lost the match. They have wanted a re-match ever since.

This year one of the former students, Gary Matthews, got in touch with headteacher John Banks to see whether he could arrange a re-match and the PE staff were all too willing to oblige.

Gary Matthews said: "It all started when me and a few of the lads were having a basketball Christmas do late last year and we were all just chatting and reminiscing about school times and the match actually came up in conversation and we all thought it would be a cool idea if we could all do it again."

It was agreed that ticket sales from the match, which was held on May 19, would go towards the school's Harvest charity which is Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The match was watched by an enthusiastic crowd which included school governor and Mayoress Joan Mee who took her guide dog Russell along to support the players.

And a heated game it was, with one of the PE staff dislocating their finger in the process but the ex-students settled the score with a 57-16 victory.
