A MOTHER has paid tribute to her 'soul mate' daughter who died following a walking accident in the Lake District.

The 24-year-old, named by police as Victoria Harris, was walking on a fell called Haystacks in the Buttermere Valley, when the accident happened.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team, air ambulance and an RAF helicopter attended the scene at about 4pm on Wednesday, July 1, after reports that a woman had suffered a serious fall.

Miss Harris was airlifted to the Cumberland Infirmary but was pronounced dead on arrival having suffered significant head injuries.

Her mother Carol Allenby-Carr, who lives in Atherton and works for Travel Counsellors, in Churchgate, Bolton, was also rescued, but suffered only minor injuries.

In an emotional tribute to her daughter Ms Allenby-Carr wrote on her Facebook page: “I am so sad to say my beautiful daughter and soul mate Victoria died yesterday in a tragic accident whilst we were out waking.

“She was a wonderful daughter, and I don't know how we are going to get over it. Sleep tight with the angels my little beauty.”
