THE stars really did come out to shine when Bedford High School’s Year 11 swapped school blazers for tuxedos and ball gowns at the prom.

Fresh from exam season, the young party goers pulled out all the stops for their prom at The Marriott Hotel and Country Club in Worsley, arriving at the venue in a succession of sensational vehicles, from limos to hummers and from sports cars to a double decker bus.

Leaver Salanya Cowsill said: “This night means so much to all of us. It’s a chance for us to be with our friends and enjoy all the good times we have shared together at school.”

Salanya, whose next move will be to study Drama at Pendleton College, added: “Bedford High School is a great place, it has given us all so many opportunities. The teaching staff have been brilliant and supported us every step of the way. I think everyone will really miss it.”

Whilst Prom goer Liam Smith, who is planning to go on to study medicine added: “We have all made great friends and lots of memories that we will keep for the rest of our lives.”

“There have been so many good times at Bedford that it is difficult to say what I have enjoyed the most.

Bedford High School Headteacher Helen Phillips said she was immensely proud of all the leavers.

“Tonight they have been a real credit to their school, their families and themselves. They all looked amazing and they acted in an extremely mature and responsible way. We have seen them make the transition from childhood to young adults and they have done it in fine style.”

Mrs Phillips added: “Once again our Year 11 have been an excellent group of young people to work with. They have tried hard all year and we expect great things from them on GCSE Results Day. It’s always difficult to say goodbye, especially to such an exceptional group of young people and they can go out into the world with their heads high. We wish them all the very best for the future and hope to see them coming back to Bedford to tell us all about their success.”
