CHARITIES in Leigh are being invited to apply for grants to carry out community projects large and small.

They are available from The Gannett Foundation, the charitable arm of Gannett Co Inc. which is the parent company of Newsquest Media Group - one of the UK’s largest publishers and owners of The Leigh Journal.

Registered charities with projects such as neighbourhood improvements, local problem-solving, economic development, youth enterprise, assistance to disadvantaged or disabled people, care of the elderly, environmental conservation, and educational or cultural enrichment are urged to apply.

The charity is looking for projects that bring lasting benefits to the community and will entertain applications of any size or ambition.

Typically grants are modest sums for practical projects but they frequently award sums of £10,000 or more to larger projects which deserve backing.

Only registered charities can apply and must submit copies of their most recent financial accounts.

Each nomination will be judged by trustees, whose decision is final.

Applications must be submitted on the approved application form, GANNETT FOUNDATION APPLICATION FORM 2015.docx

It and supporting document should be sent to lisa.schofield@nqnw.co.uk.

Submissions on paper are not encouraged, but if unavoidable, they must be sent to Lisa Schofield, The Bolton News, Wellsprings, Bolton, BL1 1AR. Applications must arrive by 5pm on Friday, October 9, 2015.
